Bridget is a new short film which deals with “The burning of Bridget Cleary”. In 1895 Bridget Cleary a seamstress who was a very independent prosperous young woman and whose murder case became known as the last witch burning in Ireland was murdered. Her husband believed her to be a changeling.
Was Bridget a witch or a fairy or was this merely another murder of a young woman who couldn’t be controlled. Anne Williamson and Brian Clancy two local Cloneen writers in Tipperary where this all happened take a different view of events. Directed and produced by Anne Williamson and filmed by “Diceman Productions” from Kilkenny this is a lovely tribute to a woman who was way ahead of her time and this ultimately led to her demise.
