In this engaging talk, Andrew Doherty explores the maritime heritage of the River Blackwater in south Kilkenny, uncovering its historic role in connecting local communities to Waterford and the wider Three Sisters river network through a thriving trade in goods and people. Drawing on maps, archaeology, local knowledge and community memories, he also examines the history of the distinctive “Pill” placename and highlights the rich river heritage of south-east Ireland.
