St Canice’s has played host to countless organ recitals in its history, air passing through the same pipes, into the same room, for more than a hundred years. Hearing the organ is a kind of time travel: the closest we can come to hearing pitched sounds exactly as our ancestors did.
The way in which sound lingers, soaking into the walls of a church, inspired award-winning composer (and Radiohead guitarist) Jonny Greenwood to create 740 Years of Reverb, an epic, eight-hour organ concert that seeks to fill St Canice’s with sound.
Performed by celebrated organists James McVinnie and Eliza McCarthy, 740 Years of Reverb creates an extraordinary wall (or four walls) of sound, re-energising the space and exploring its unique aural qualities. Drop in to sample the experience, or catch the whole, mesmerising work!
