Spending Ireland’s Tax Bonanza

Saturday 04th November 2023
Location: Cleere’s Bar and Theatre
Ireland has lucked out! We have more money than we know what to do with it. The fiscal surpluses, stemming from huge corporation tax receipts, constitute an extraordinary opportunity to transform the country. But we are not spending the loot. Why? Fear, a lack of imagination or the tyranny of accountancy? In the past, we didn’t build infrastructure due to a lack of money, not imagination, now we have the cash and we are paralysed, too frightened to spend it. This panel will explain how Ireland got to this place and how we can change it to build houses, trains, hospitals, and all the services that you’d expect in a country as rich as Ireland.
