The House of Oedipus*

Friday 25th April 2025
Location: Barnstorm Studio R95T382
If a person commits a crime but does not know it is a crime, are they guilty?
Barnstorm’s Youth Theatre present an epic tale of Greek tragedy, ‘The House of Oedipus’, a story of one man’s family doomed from the beginning. Following on from the success of William Shakespeare’s thrilling tale of ambition and destruction ‘Macbeth’ and Dawn King’s near future dystopian cautionary fable ‘The Trials’, Barnstorm Youth Theatre take on the world of gods and men.
‘The House of Oedipus’ has a cast of 17 young Kilkenny people who present this tale of Oedipus, a man who kills his father and marries his mother with dire consequences. Adapted from four Greek tragedies, it is a challenge that the young people take on with delight.
Fern Kealy, Barnstorm’s Youth Theatre Facilitator and Director of the play says:
“I’m really excited for the Youth Theatre members to perform the House of Oedipus. Greek Theatre is timeless and this adaption is a fantastic opportunity to dive into that world.”
‘The House of Oedipus’ is running from Thursday 24th – Saturday 26th April at 7.30pm, with a matinee on 26th April at 2.30pm, at Barnstorm Studio, Home Rule Club, John’s Quay, Kilkenny
Tickets are €12/€10 conc. and are available from Eventbrite
