Europe’s – particularly Germany’s – economic model was based on cheap gas, cheap money, and American-policed peace in Europe. Now all three are gone. What’s next? Having remained united in the face of the Brexit deal and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, can the EU ride out the biggest energy crisis since the 1970s, rapidly rising interest rates, and huge increases in defense spending, all of which threaten to tank economies across the bloc? Will Europe’s leaders find a way to overcome it and gain an edge to confound its critics?
