A night of music and connection . Join a host of musicians for an evening of music and the book launch of Shirley Bowers book ‘I Heard their Cry’. Shirley will speak about her book on the exiled community living in Barbados and the need for healing and reconciliation.

The plantations established by English settlers in Barbados relied on a plentiful supply of indentured workers from Ireland, Scotland as well as parts of Wales and England. Labourers of all backgrounds faced harsh conditions, but Irish Catholics were especially poorly treated due to their ethnicity, religion and rebelliousness. Meanwhile, the poor white population that emerged from this indentured class settled around the parish of St John, where some 400 of their descendants our forgotten Irish diaspora survive to this day.
