Location: Watergate Theatre, Parliament Street, Kilkenny. R95 D320
This Autumn, after captivating audiences across Ireland, North America, and the UK, Arán & Im returns for its final tour — a unique, immersive performance blending the humble acts of bread-making and butter-churning with the vast, mythic terrain of the Irish language.
For 75 minutes, writer and performer Manchán Magan bakes sourdough live on stage while delving into the hidden energies and earthy poetics of Gaeilge. With humour, intimacy and depth, he explores words of intuition and landscape, phrases that shimmer with ancient wisdom, and expressions that evoke the Otherworld. Audience members churn their own butter to spread on fresh bread, engaging all the senses in this nourishing ritual of language and land.
Originally produced by the Abbey Theatre, Arán & Im toured Ireland in 2018 and 2019, then went on to tour 16 cities across 13 US states and 2 Canadian provinces in Spring 2022, followed by a West Coast North America tour in 2023, and a UK tour in Autumn 2024. This 2025 tour marks its final run — a last chance to witness this quietly radical celebration of local food culture and linguistic belonging.
