Rewilding Riverbank

Friday 19th September 2025
Location: Mayfair Public Library, Abbey St, Kilkenny.
Rewilding Riverbank” features drop-in workshops inspired by an exhibition of paintings by Rachel Burke and sculpture by Ruairí Carroll. These works document their Riverbank Field return to its natural state. This free, family-friendly engagement workshop uses drawing and painting materials, as well as 3D sculptural pieces, to explore the River Nore and its riverbank.

Three different art stations within the Mayfair Library Gallery will explore drawing, painting, and sculpture. The drawing workshop, facilitated by Alice Bennett, will focus on mark-making and drawing from wildflowers and foraged natural materials from Riverbank, using charcoal, graphite, and pencil. The painting workshop, facilitated by Rachel Burke, will experiment with colour using acrylic inks. Ruairí Carroll will facilitate the sculpture workshop, creating 3D pieces using found natural wood combined with card. All materials are provided, and the workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Times:
Drop-in workshops: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Rewilding Riverbank” exhibition: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM on September 19th, running until September 30th.

The symbol of the tree will be central to our event and the branches will be the highlights on the evening – our local traditions, and changing times, for example, games/sport, language/literature, place-names, employment, history, emigration, and many more.
