Friday 19th September 2025
Location: Thomastown Community Centre, Marsh’s Street, Thomastown,
Gillian Grattan will present a rehearsed reading of The Blitz, a new play she is developing that celebrates the humour, strength, and solidarity of a rural Ladies Gaelic Football “mothers and others” team.
The story follows a group of women juggling family, work, and sport in their small tight knit community. Following a significant event in their town, the women must pull together to overcome some unexpected challenges that come their way.
Performed script-in-hand, the reading will use minimal staging to focus on the script and performances. Audiences will be invited to engage with the narrative and share feedback to support the play’s next phase.
The event aims to build connections between artists and the community, highlighting women’s experiences in sport and rural life.
A rehearsal beforehand will ensure a polished, accessible experience that encourages participation and celebrates Culture Night.
