Singer-guitarist Padraic Skehan and drummer Binx met while the latter was holidaying in Padraic’s then-hometown of Dublin. A two-week visit that turned into two years and ultimately caused Padraic to uproot in 2001 and find himself in the former steel town of Wollongong, 80 minutes south of Sydney. Like many good bands, Chimers were born out of isolation. Not geographically, but via the pandemic. The pair formed the band in their Wollongong backyard during the initial lockdown of 2020. Patrick, taking a giant leap forward form his past as a drummer in the vibrant Wollongong garage scene, removing himself from the back seat and assuming the role of driver; singing, playing guitar and ofcourse, songwriting. Chimers combine their love of noise pop, post-punk and garage rock. A dynamic sound of discordant guitar, off-beat drum line and brash melodic vocals. Think equal parts Mission of Burma, Wipers and all things Discord Records as direct influences. The band has picked up fans in Henry Rollins, Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto, Matador and 12XU Records’ great, Gerard Cosloy.
