Kilkenny Arts Festival presents The Breath
Stuart McCallum and Ríoghnach Connolly may come from very different musical backgrounds – McCallum is an acclaimed guitarist and ex-member of The Cinematic Orchestra, while Connolly is a multi-award-winning folk singer – but since joining forces as The Breath in 2016, they have crafted a uniquely harmonious sound, exploring the spaces between rock, ambient and traditional music.
Their honest, heartfelt songs are as likely to touch on childhood summers and first love as injustice and grief. But it’s Ríoghnach’s impassioned delivery and ‘stunning, woozy’ voice (The Guardian), coupled with Stuart’s understated brilliance, that’s earned them a devoted following and critical acclaim, including Folk Singer of the Year for Connolly at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2019.
