Willie Meighan often said, “You’ll like this”, before handing you an album that you’d love! In 2015, David Corley’s Available Light was released, and Willie went into overdrive, getting this album into as many hands as possible. Within a few weeks, the town was abuzz with enthusiastic David Corley fans.
David, of Lafayette, Indiana, was 53 at the time he released his masterpiece, an album that charted 30 years of a ‘cross-country odyssey of self-exploration’ and was ‘a lifetime of experience in a single album’.
In August 2015, David made his first appearance at a sold-out Cleere’s and returned in 2016 for 2 sold-out shows at The Kilkenny Roots Festival and a national tour, just a few months after having a heart attack on stage in Groningen. He was back in 2017, when his backing band were all Kilkenny musicians for another sold-out show here and a national tour.
Sadly, David passed away in September, and his many Kilkenny friends are getting together for a night of celebration of his music. All proceeds will go to the completion and release of his posthumous album.
