Róisín O’Grady, Sharon Carty, Eamonn Mulhall, Kerenza Peacock, Beth McNinch and Katie Tertell perform a programme centred on settings of Stabat Mater, the 13th-century Latin hymn depicting the Virgin Mary’s sorrow at the Crucifixion. The programme includes Arvo Pärt’s Es sang vor langen Jahren and Stabat Mater, Libby Croad’s To Have Body from Chronically Hopeful, Henry Purcell’s Music for a while, Linda Buckley’s Fiol for string trio, and a new Stabat Mater setting by Deborah Pritchard. Pärt’s 1985 Stabat Mater uses his distinctive tintinnabuli style and returns the text to its liturgical roots.
