playwildParty Rehearsed Reading

Wednesday 14th May 2025
Location: Watergate Theatre, Parliament Street, Kilkenny. R95 D320
You know when you throw a house party, that moment when it slips out of your control? A bunch of strangers troop in, everyone has really had too much to drink, the dancefloor spills out onto the street, the neighbours call the cops…

playwildParty is about the wild magic that happens when you open your home to friends, foes and strangers alike, when social mores dissolve, social barriers drop, and deeper desires and dreams emerge to dance with the throng on the living room carpet.

playWildParty is not only a lyrical verse play bursting with lively language; it also incorporates unique opportunities for the audience to become part of the story.

The reading culminates an extensive development process since January of this year, funded by Watergate Theatre with the support of Watergate Theatre Artists in Residence Asylum Productions. The process has comprised a series of workshops with Watergate Collective, a network of enthusiastic and talented local amateurs that Watergate has been cultivating for the last few years.

Successive drafts of the play have been written and read, as well as trialling multiple modes of participation, with the input of guest teachers in voice and movement.

playWildParty was initiated thanks to a Seed Commission from the Abbey Theatre, and subsequent drafts were supported by a two-year Arts Council Bursary.
