Molly Aitken discusses Bright I Burn, her novel that reimagines Alice Kyteler from the perspective missing from the surviving prosecution records. The novel portrays Alice as an innkeeper’s daughter who expands her father’s trade, builds a fortune in a city hostile to a wealthy woman, marries four times and outlives three husbands before gossip around her wealth hardens into a capital accusation. Hosted by novelist Anya Bergman, the reading and conversation examines power, fear and the recovery of erased historical voices.
