The first in a planned annual seminar series uses the 1324 execution of Petronilla de Midia to examine the Kilkenny witch trial and wider questions of power, wealth, status, church and state, blame and exclusion. The panel brings together Dr Andrew Sneddon of Ulster University, Dr Celeste McNamara of DCU and Mary McAuliffe of UCD. With Ireland holding the EU Presidency in 2026, the discussion also considers changes in women’s rights and treatment across Europe. The event is funded through Cultúr 2026.
