Jinx Lennon border schizo fffolk punk provider joins verbose hook-laden spoken-word duo Wasps vs Humans and hip-hop political vomit inducer Captain Moonlight for a triple-bill, noise-filled night.
JINX LENNON sings of the factories, blind-eyed border inhabitants, head-the-ball teachers of his past, the beauty and ugliness (in the same breath) of the border urban landscape, the things that make the workday transcendent for mental happiness, and a cracked-eyed view of family life — all done to uplift himself so he can uplift the audience at hand. Seen recently at Fish Town at Electric Picnic and All Together Now, the Jinx show is like going to mass without the finger-pointing. In a word, it is joyous. Recently featured in Dennis Harvey and Lars Loven’s ”Celtic Utopia ” movie about the rawer side of Irish folk music his songs are now standard in the pubs of Belfast including ”Newry Bird ” and ”We don’t see Anything” which was recently covered by Ronan O Snodaigh and Myles O Reilly on their latest album.
WASPS vs HUMANS are an anarchic mix of drums, bodhrán, whistles, punk poetry, songs and beats. A sonic assault, their brand of electronic punk-folk energy tackles disappointment, inner-city crime, a fame-obsessed culture and social decay with a huge dollop of desperation, balanced by equal measures of anger and wit, creating a darkly humorous soundtrack to modern life. Earlier this month, the duo released their second album, The Day Homo Sapiens Destroyed the Earth to critical acclaim including a 4-star review by the Irish Times.
CAPTAIN MOONLIGHT is one of Irish hip-hop’s finest, Kilkenny rapper Captain Moonlight has never been one to avoid saying what’s on his mind; a rapper, writer, producer, , his social commentary tackles serious issues, with a dash of punk, a swing of a hurl and a folk-horror narrative, creating intelligent, hard-hitting, often humorous hip-hop.
